Applied Linguistics
• ability to ensure a special kind of communication through adequate translation; ability to edit translation;
• ability to perform computer-aided language processing: analysis, synthesis, language sound code recognition, morphological and syntactic text analyses;
• ability to develop, implement and provide linguistic support for electronic information systems, electronic linguistic resources for different purposes and language processing systems;
• ability to create electronic linguistic resources (text corpora, dictionaries, linguistic databases including those for machine translation systems);
• ability to diagnose oral and written speech, to conduct linguistic analysis of written texts and oral speech;
• ability to unify and standardize scientific and technical terminology;
• ability to create computer-aided documents and reports, information search systems, web interfaces, to develop their design and linguistic software;
• ability to provide linguistic support for publishing;

Characteristics of the educational program:
Gained competence: Combined educational-vocational programme (academic, applied and research) aimed at training competent Applied Linguistics professionals for modern job market; providing a high level of their academic and professional competence essential for solving a wide range of problems related to scientific-methodological, research, practical and organizational activity; training students for successful completion of further (postgraduate) programmes. The programme is based on generally accepted principles and recent findings in Applied Linguistics the interdisciplinary character of which implies introducing mathematical methods into investigation and description of linguistic processes for their modelling, formalisation and algorithmisation as well as using linguistic and mathematical methods to develop information and intellectual systems for automatic natural language processing. The main focus of the programme is on special education, professional and academic training in the fields oriented towards creating algorithms for coding, recognizing, interpreting, generating, processing language and speech, translation, ensuring cross-cultural communication, developing linguistic software for different natural language processing systems and computer-aided information systems.

Work placement(s): Professional and practical training include Translation Internship (3 ECTS credits) and Master’s Thesis Internship (9 ECTS credits)

Occupational profiles of graduates: Upon completion the academic programme graduates are entitled to be employed in the fields of Philology, Linguistics and Translation, Programming, Informatisation and Information Technologies, Computer Systems, Information Services, International Activity, Publishing.
Access to further studies: Access to post-graduate studies in a professional field as well as Master’s degree studies in unrelated fields in Ukraine and abroad.
