Characteristics of the educational program:
Gained competence: Educational and vocational training program is based on a combination of classic heritage and contemporary achievements of humanities sciences, primarily sociology, has marked socio-political, economic and socio-informative elements, focuses on further education at the third (doctoral) level of higher education and professional self-education.
Student-centered problem-based learning, lectures, workshops, independent work, consultations with teachers, learning through practice, the mandatory involvement in research.
Classes are conducted using modern equipment, including multimedia and special software, including OpenOffice.org, Mozilla Firefox, Filezilla, Putty, Windows, and professional programs used in the processing of sociological data: SPSS, SAS, OSA and others.
The total amount of educational and professional programs - 90 ECTS credits, incl.: a series of humanitarian and socio-economic training - 6 ECTS credits, cycle of professional and practical training - 84 ECTS credits

Work placement(s): Important components of preparation of masters in sociology are the assistant practice and the practice on the theme of master's qualification work. The first of these forms is necessary for achivinng the competence in teaching methodology of social sciences and the second - professional competence in the field of independent planning and research, the planning appropriate to situation of socio-technological actions and the protection of the results. Practices are held under the supervision of the department in the structures of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" (assistant) and research institutions, think tanks (practice on the theme of master's qualification work).

Occupational profiles of graduates: With a sociological way of thinking, a graduate of the master's program is able to describe and explain the social reality, understands the patterns of human interaction and ambiguous interpretations of social phenomena, has the skills of analytical work with social information. Acquired competencies can be applied in research, management, education, media and communication, business and other disciplinary and professional fields. The graduate applicable to any type of employment that require analytical work with social information, effective communication, management of social relations and processes.
Access to further studies: The possibility of further training for the third (education and research) level of higher education.
Other program features: The in-depth study of foreign languages and modern information technologies that have application in the analysis of social processes;
The long-term scientific and educational-methodical cooperation with well-known domestic and foreign research institutions and universities, including the University of Manitoba (Canada), University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt (Germany), Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow and Academy of the Navy in Gdynia (Poland) . This makes it possible not only to apply in practice learning achievements of leading universities and scientific institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries, but also to contact with foreign students, to continue to study abroad, according to signed agreements on cooperation;
The possibility to exchange of academic achievements of students of leading domestic and foreign universities at the conference "Sociology - social work – adjustment of social problems," which is held annually since 2001 at the department;
The chance to practice in one of the well-known domestic sociological services - sociological agency "Fama", founded by graduates of the Department of Sociology and Social Work.
