Reasons for the establishment of Leonardo da Vinci Center for Italian-Ukrainian Cooperation Why Italy and the Italian language?

Italy took on an important role in the European higher education, being one of four countries that first contributed to the creation of the so-called «European Higher Education Area» (Declaration, May 1998), initiating an impressive process of harmonization of different higher education systems known as «The Bologna Process» (Bologna Declaration, June 1999).

Even in the past, Italy was a very active center for university studies and the cradle of ancient civilizations. The whole world appreciates Italian art treasures in the field of architecture, painting, sculpture, mosaics and wooden art, as well as the works and discoveries by its artists, musicians, poets, navigators (sailors) such as Raffaello Sanzio, Michelangelo da Caravaggio, Giuseppe Verdi, Christopher Columbus, Leonardo da Vinci, Antonio Meucci, Guglielmo Marconi, Carlo Rubbia and others.

Today, Italy is among eight most industrialized countries in the world. In addition to some large companies, both public and private, Italy has developed a strong network of small and medium-sized enterprises, contributed to the creation of science parks and promoted both Basic and Applied researches in a wide range of disciplines (Biology, Physics, Medicine, Information Technology, etc.)

This project aims to create an Institute of Italian Language and Culture at Lviv Polytechnic National University and to establish a University Language Center, an Italian section and General linguistics.

Italy actively cooperates with international institutions and organizations – especially those within the United Nations family of organizations, including UNESCO – to support its multilateral cultural activities. The regulatory and financial base of cultural cooperation is formed by the treaties of accession, signed and ratified international conventions, as well as foundations, programs and projects in which our country voluntarily participates.

The creation of the Center for Italian-Ukrainian Cooperation could facilitate the exchange between foreign universities and, in the future, initiate bilateral studies between the two countries.

The Center would be an ideal meeting place for intellectuals, artists and everyone who wants to create or maintain relationships with Italy.

Thus, Italian Cultural Center should, first and foremost, become the main information spot about Italy, as well as the center for the promotion of cultural initiatives and activities related to Italian culture.
