- demonstrating the knowledge and understanding of scientific and mathematical principles that underlie cartography;
- ability to demonstrate knowledge in professionally oriented disciplines of specialty;
- demonstrate the knowledge of the current stage and modern technologies in the area of natural sciences of Earth;
- knowledge of basic concepts of digital cartography;
- knowledge of basic regulatory acts in the field of Earth Sciences;
- knowledge of methods and procedure for designing, editing, compiling, updating, preparation for edition and publication of maps;
- knowledge of the origin, methods of reflection on topographic and thematic maps, of various toponyms for the preparation of highly skilled professionals in cartography and for further production activities.

- use the theoretical and practical achievements of human, natural and exact sciences necessary to solve the problem or research;

- ability to monitor aimed at ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources and the environment through the use satellite photographing materials;

- ability to use computer technology to solve complex problems of information support of geographic information systems (GIS) and create digital mapping materials;
- ability to apply knowledge to input, processing and output of graphic and attribute data in GIS, organization and operation of banks and base of map(cartographic) data;
- ability to perform an artistic design of maps and atlases on various themes, to apply technical and artistic graphics, colour and chiaroscuro technique in the map design.
