Learning outcomes:
Ability to conduct research and carry out scientific projects on the basis of identification of current scientific problems, defining goals and objectives, formation and critical analysis of information base, substantiation and commercialization of research results, formulation of author's conclusions and suggestions. Ability to conduct research independently and make decisions.
Knowledge of the chemical structure of medicinal substances, sources and methods of their obtaining, regularities of the relationship between chemical structure and pharmacological properties, methods of identification and quantitative recognition, storage conditions. To be able to use the methods of quality control of raw materials and finished pharmaceutical products and to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances of inorganic, organic and biological origin. To be able to generalize and systematize information about the chemical structure, physical properties, methods of obtaining and analyzing modern medicinal substances. Ability to apply instrumental methods of investigation to identify organic compounds in the laboratory. Ability to form practical skills in instrumental methods of research used in the study of chemical materials.

Summary of the subject:
The concept and definition of instrumental methods of analysis. Polarography. Refractometry. Spectrophotometry, absorption spectrum. Spectrophotometry in UV-, IR-, near-IR and visible regions of the spectrum. The use of spectrophotometry to identify compounds. Nuclear magnetic resonance. NMR recording devices. Interpretation of NMR spectra. Spectrum processing programs. The Nuclear Overhauser effect and associated techniques. 1-D COSY NMR techniques. 2-D NOESY spectra. Spin Decoupling. Chromatography. Types of chromatography. Adsorbents and media for chromatography. Liquid and gas chromatography. Thin layer chromatography and paper chromatography. Ion exchange, affinity, adsorption chromatography. Fluorescence analysis of the substance. Chemiluminescence and bioluminescence. Microscopic analysis. Optical scheme and principle of operation of the microscope. Ultraviolet, infrared, fluorescence, polarization and ultramicroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis. X-ray structural and X-ray spectral analysis. X-ray Experimentation Technique. Examples of Х-ray spectra and their qualitative analysis. Mass-spectroscopy. Physical basis and essence of the method. The technique of experiment in mass-spectroscopy. Examples of mass spectra and principles of their analysis. Types of detectors. Methods of ionization. Protein studies by mass spectroscopy (MALDI and other methods of ionization). Hybrid methods: gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
