Corrosion Protection

Major: Applied Materials Science
Code of Subject: 7.132.01.O.8
Credits: 3
Department: Applied Materials Science and Materials Engineering
Lecturer: Ivan M. Zin, Professor, DSc.
Semester: 2 семестр
Mode of Study: денна
Learning outcomes:
1. To know theoretical fundamentals of development of technologies of corrosion protection for metal structures in aggressive environments;
2. To evaluate the effectiveness of corrosion protection of steel structures for given conditions and identify possible ways to improve it;
3. To search and make analysis of scientific literature on corrosion protection of metals, including using computer databases;
4. Be able to choose corrosion inhibitors, electrochemical means, materials and corrosion resistant coating to protect equipment and hardware;
5. To know rational design methods from the standpoint of ensuring corrosion resistance of condtructions;
6. To be familiar with modern methods of corrosion monitoring of metal structures and principles of corrosion protection in oil and gas, chemical, energy, transportation and other industries.
Required prior and related subjects:
Prerequisites:
мaterials science, nonmetallic materials, powder and composite materials, technology of construction materials
Summary of the subject:
Students learn the theoretical basis of the development of technologies corrosion protection of metal structures in hostile environments. Master the principles of selecting corrosion inhibitors, of electrochemical protection, corrosion resistant materials and coatings for protection of equipment and hardware. It shapes the student the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of corrosion protection of steel structures for given conditions and identify possible ways to improve it.
