Dear Society of Lviv Polytechnicians!

On October 14 – the grand feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos – I sincerely and warmly congratulate you on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine!

In the chronicle of exploits of our people there are many events and dates worth celebrating. However, since ancient times, the feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos was chosen as the day of courageous knights – Ukrainian Cossacks. It’s not just a public holiday, it’s truly a nationwide honoring of our unconquered and courageous defenders.

It should also be noted that on this remarkable day we traditionally celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army – the military-political formation of the national liberation movement, which made an invaluable contribution to the struggle for the Ukrainian independent state.

Today this holiday is getting special meaning and dramatism, as our soldiers, with weapons in their hands, defend the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine in the war with the Russian aggressor. All as one, Ukrainians started to defend their Homeland. Students and lecturers of Lviv Polytechnic University, with the call of the heart, joined the noble and patriotic troops. Many of them are directly involved in military operations, and even more do their daily selfless volunteer work by raising funds for the needs of our army.

Today, with pain in our hearts, we honor the memory of all unconquered Ukrainians, the defenders of our Homeland, who passed away protecting our country. The struggle for independence of Ukraine continues!

Let’s save and multiply the glory of our courageous heroes! And let the words of the oath of our Ukrainian patriots be permanently embedded in our memory and hearts: «Be true to your Homeland till death, Ukraine is above everything!»

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to her heroes-defenders!
