IPEC students start the new academic year with Siemens: a new laboratory was opened at University

At the beginning of the new academic year, the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems of Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted the opening of a new modern digital education and research center for electric drives and automation systems, equipped by the world-famous German concern Siemens.

At the solemn presentation, the Rector of University, Professor Yurii Bobalo, in his welcoming speech, cited the USA President Ronald Reagan: «America is rich and that’s why it gives money to universities? No! America is rich BECAUSE it gives money to universities». Yurii Bobalo said these two sentences have a very deep meaning. «We will also be a prosperous country if we develop scientific and education basis of our universities with the latest equipment of world firms», he underlined.

The representative of Siemens in Ukraine, Maciej Zielinski, told about the cooperation between concern and many Ukrainian institutions. In the 21st century, during the fourth scientific and technological revolution, in the era of digitization (digital technologies), special attention is paid to practical scientific developments. Therefore, he expects fruitful cooperation with Lviv Polytechnic, a well-known education institution with a long and glorious history and significant reputation in the scientific European world.

Maciej Zielinski also said that classes at the Siemens laboratory will help students realize themselves and subsequently get jobs in the company. He announced the beginning of student contest for the best programming of Siemens processors. The winner will receive one thousand euros.

There was a presentation about the history of the company’s activity in Lviv that began 125 years ago. It was then that Siemens launched here the first electric tram, and the electrical lighting of the Lviv Opera House and the entire city center.

Professor Andrii Lozynskyi, Director of the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems of Lviv Polytechnic University, expressed his gratitude to the concern representatives for the help provided.

The representatives of the regional state administration and city authorities attended the presentation.
