The international project IMAGE, which for the first time in Ukraine has won the grant of the European program Horizon-2020 operates in Lviv Polytechnic. Its curator is ITRE Professor Anatolii Andrushchak. On this occasion, participants of the consortium from Ukraine, Poland, Germany and France came to Lviv to analyze the first stage of work.

The project is designed for four years. It involves specialists in optics, crystalline physics, IT sphere and nanoengineering. They study anisotropic crystalline materials, investigate spatial anisotropy which allows them to double or triple their efficiency, as well as investigate a new class of crystalline nanocomposites with certain anisotropy.

According to the terms of participation in Horizon-2020, project participants have to meet annually to analyze the work done and to outline the plans. The project coordinators, scientists from Lviv Polytechnic, the Scientific Research Company «Carat», Warsaw University of Technology, Częstochowa University of Technology (Poland) and research institutions in Germany and France, took part in the two-day event. In general, there were more than 20 people.

Program curator Anatolii Andrushchak announced that the conference will be held in Częstochowa on August 25–29. Not only coordinators, but all project participants will take part in its events.

Regarding the work done, Professor emphasized that during the first year there were five visits to private company Enoze (Poland) and Smartemembranes (Germany), as according to the rules, scientists of Lviv Polytechnic can pay a visit only to non-academic institutions of other countries. During trips, they saw the current state of interferometric and optical methods of measurements of electro-optic coefficients of crystalline materials. The researchers also conducted an experimental method for the study of nanoporous matrices, which were taken on the basis of experimental tests and theoretical data. From the point of view of scientific achievements, the researchers managed to investigate the optical part of experimental device for refractive index measurement and learned to create various membranes. Also, they hold two conferences and prepared three scientific publications.

This first year we were getting acquainted with everything. We have coordinated our positions, come up with several theoretical and practical ideas that increase the accuracy of measurement as well as developed software for measurement. I hope that cooperation in the framework of our project will be more creative and fruitful, summarizes Mr. Andrushchak.
