On November 6, 2020, the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, held a webinar «Language is the Key to Ukraine». The highlight of the event was the presentation of a new textbook on Ukrainian as a foreign language in two parts «The key to Ukraine: cities and people» (levels B2-C1) by IECDR .The webinar also included a discussion «Modern textbooks on the Ukrainian language as a foreign language as a means of promoting Ukraine».
Representatives from more than 35 countries took part in the online presentation. The participants were greeted by Oleh Matviikiv, First Vice-Rector, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Mariia Kupriianova, Executive Director, Ukrainian World Congress, and Andrii Pavliv, Director of Lviv Conference Bureau.
Presenting IECDR novelty – the textbook «The Key to Ukraine: Cities and People», the moderator of the event Oksana Horda showed the webinar participants original, vivid, beautifully illustrated educational product. Researchers of the Institute Oksana Trumko and Halyna Temnyk told about the origin of the idea, stages of creation and structure of the textbook, as well as presented its author team. IECDR designer Iryna Ukrainska described the complex process of illustrative work. The authors expressed their gratitude to the approbators of the textbook. Everyone had the opportunity to get acquainted with the feedback on the IECDR website.
The presentation was followed by an expert discussion on whether textbooks can serve a means of promoting Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, what such educational materials should look like and what materials should prevail – tradition or modernity?
