Sunday, June 21, was Medical Worker Day and millions of people around the world expressed gratitude to their rescuers.
But few people know that among the employees of Lviv Polytechnic National University there are also emergency medicine physicians – Ihor Mokryi and Oleh Voht, academic staff of the Department of Civil Security. They save people every day and are now at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus. Before the quarantine for several years they taught both students and academic staff of our University how to perform first aid.
Ihor Mokryi – a doctor with more than 40 years of experience, back in 1986 was at the forefront of the Chernobyl disaster, as well as rescued victims of the Sknyliv tragedy. He is an instructor-methodologist at the International Training Center For Emergency Medical Services as well as an ambulance worker in Lviv. Oleh Voht is an emergency physician of the highest category, anesthesiologist of the I category with more than 20 years of experience. Now he is the Head of Medical Assistance Substation of Lviv Regional Center for emergency medical care and medicine of catastrophes.
More than 150 employees of Lviv Polytechnic know them due to the First Aid Courses, which operated at the Department of Civil Security in 2018–2019, where Ihor Mokryi and Oleh Voht shared their experiences on a volunteer basis (this year courses were, unfortunately, interrupted by quarantine…). These courses were designed for people without basic medical education who wanted to practice first aid for bleeding, cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, choking, drowning, burns, frostbite, injuries and other situations according to first aid standards.
Students know them and express their gratitude for interesting practical classes of Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Health. We hope that future flows of students will also have such an opportunity as to enjoy their classes.
Bachelor students majoring in Civil Security are also grateful to Ihor Mokryi and Oleh Voht for a thorough knowledge of the first aid procedures aimed at saving and preserving human life in an emergency.
