Learning outcomes:
• Knowledge and understanding of the subject area and profession
• The ability to learn, perceive the acquired knowledge in the subject area and integrate them with already available; the ability to search and analyze information from different sources
• Basic knowledge of fundamental sciences in the necessary extent for the general professional subjects mastering
• Basic knowledge in theory of architecture and urban planning needed for professionally oriented disciplines mastering
• Competence in the modern concepts in urban planning

Summary of the subject:
The city in history and culture (philosophical excursus). Modern city forming factors in Ukraine. Urban ideas and concepts of the XIX - XX centuries. Urban ideas of the 20-30's. of XX century. Totalitarian states urban planning. Urban planning modernism before and after second world war (30-50 years of the XX century). The postwar reconstruction: search of the city identity. Dezurbanization ideas. Socio-spatial processes of the XX century and their classification. New urbanism. The principles of intellectual urban planning. The sustainable development.
