As result of study, student should
- understand: places and roles of a child in different societies; history of child welfare agencies in international and local context; different approaches in providing foster family care; theories, approaches, values and applied models used in treating family violence; basics of initial assessments and planning; basics of professional intervention for resolving family violence; stages of violence and its root causes; specifics of treating family violence from different social work practice levels.
- Be able to: critically examine child welfare system and initiate required changes into social work practices; identify risk of family violence; timely prevent mistreatment, abandonment and incorrect upbringing of a child; conduct constructive and professional intervention in crisis situations including family violence; improve client’s awareness about need of non-violence in the family.

- Prerequisites: Social work management; Introduction into social work and ethics of social work; Principles of psychology and pedagogics; Sociology basics; Generic and personality psychology; Social psychology, Social pedagogics.
- Co-requisites: Feminist aspects of social work; Law; Current issues in social work ІІ, ІІІ.

functions and dis-functions of the family: identification and assessment; deviant behavior: assessing risk of forming; intervention process; home visits; Attitudes towards family violence in the world; definition of healthy, un-healthy, conflict, violent relationships; forms and types of violence; family violence; cycles of violence; basic rules of consulting in case of violence; developing actionable safety plan for the whole family; law enforcement.
