Presentation of new textbooks of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations «The Key to Ukraine: Cities and People»

Within the framework of the Biennial «Ukrainian language in the world: regress or progress?» and the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference «Ukrainian Language in the World» the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, invites you to a webinar «Language is the key to Ukraine» dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. At the webinar there will be a presentation of a new course book by IECDR – «The Key to Ukraine: Cities and People» (in two parts) and a discussion «Modern textbooks on the Ukrainian language as a foreign language as a means of promoting Ukraine».

Specialists of the Institute worked tirelessly to create a series of new textbooks on the Ukrainian language as a foreign language (level B2-C1). The innovative approach, used in these course books, is an emphasis on language learning through the phenomena of Ukrainian culture. The textbook contains dozens of texts about major Ukrainian cities (including Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Uzhhorod, Chernihiv, etc.) and prominent artists associated with them (including Lesia Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, Serhiy Zhadan and Oksana Lyniv).

The webinar will also include an expert discussion on how the textbook can serve as a means of promoting Ukraine and Ukrainian culture, what such educational materials look like and what materials should prevail in them (tradition or modernity?), etc.

Speakers:

  • Oksana Levytska, Chair of the International Coordination Education Council, UWC, Director of Oakville Ridna Shkola Ukrainian Saturday School (Canada);
  • Iryna Kliuchkovska, director of IECDR, co-author of textbooks on Ukrainian as a foreign language, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences;
  • Volodymyr Sheiko, General Director of the Ukrainian Institute;
  • Orysia Demska, Chair of the National Commission on the Standards of the State Language, DSc. (Philology), Prof. at the Department of Ukrainian Language, the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy,
  • Iryna Bahmut, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, National Pedagogical Drahomanov University; lecturer of the Ukrainian language at the University of Szeged (Hungary).

We invite guests from Ukraine and abroad to participate: teachers, researchers, educators and everyone interested in learning Ukrainian as a foreign language.

The event will take place online on the Zoom platform on Friday, November 6. Beginning at 16:00. Participation in the event is free. You can pre-register by filling out the form.
