A delegation from Turkish universities visited Lviv Polytechnic

The representatives of Çukurova University, Adana, and Mersin University, partners in the project «Determination of Exposure Dose and Identification of a Radioactive Source in Radiation Accidents» under the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, visited Polytechnic at the end of October.

The project will be run for three years. The National Research Center for Radiation Medicine, Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw), Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA), the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and Sheba Medical Center (Tel Hashomer, Israel) also take part in the project.

At the meeting with Mykola Kaidan, Deputy Director of ITRE, Dean for Master Studies, the project coordinator prof. Zehra Yegingil (Çukurova University) emphasized the key role of the Lviv Polytechnic team in the implementation of the project. That is why their first working visit during the pandemic she and prof. Kasim Kurt (University of Mersin) decided to make to Lviv Polytechnic, says Serhii Ubizskyi, project co-director from Lviv Polytechnic, Professor at the Department of Semiconductor Electronics.

In general, cooperation with Lviv Polytechnic in this direction began in 2013. The current project is the second NATO project in which Turkish and Ukrainian researchers are working together. The purpose of this year’s meeting at Lviv Polytechnic was to discuss the current state of the project research, to share the results, to plan cooperation during pandemic and quarantine measures. Professor Serhii Ubizskyi told the guests about the state of development of the so-called tandem dosimetry reader, and the guests told about their success in improving the dosimetric characteristics of new ceramic materials produced at Çukurova University, as well as about the results of their luminescence properties at Mersin University.
