On 21-23 April 2017 UIA Working Programme «Spiritual Places», supported by the Union of Polish Architects and Bialystok Technical University, is planning to organize the 3rd International Scientific Conference «Architecture of Local Cultures of the Borderlands» under the title of «The Sacred – The Profane – The Sacred. Conversions and Reconversions of Sacred Architecture and Art XX-XXI cc.». It is going to take place in Warsaw, Białystok and Supraśl.
The Ist Conference «Architecture of Local Cultures of the Borderlands – Architecture of Polish, Lithuanian, Byelorussian and Ukrainian Borderlands» was organized in 2003. In 2005 we also arranged the Congress of the Polish Architects «Architecture of the City in the Dialogue of Nations and Religions» in Białystok. It was a successful event where we had a chance to discuss the problem of cultural identity and multiculturality in architecture of city. The IInd Conference «Architecture of Worship and Memorial Places in the Dialogue of Nations and Religions» was organized in 2009. The main objective of the conference was to present and to form an opinion on a phenomenon of the exchange of values in architecture of worship and memorial places, which were originated as a result of a meeting and a dialogue of various nations and religions on the cultural borderlands all over the world.
This year's conference is intended to deal with also sacred architecture. The main aim is to show and assess the problem of conversion and reconversion in sacred architecture and art XX-XXI cc.
