Conference: Environmental and Health Issues in Fast Changing Economics

The conference will begin on 10 June with registration and an official welcome gathering. On the following 3 days (11-13 June), the conference will continue with plenary sessions and parallel scientific sessions.

Topic 1: Chemistry, health risks and solutions for atmospheric air pollution

  • Concepts in atmospheric chemistry and relevance to disease risks.
  • Approaches to atmospheric pollution and associated human health risks.
  • Toxicology and mechanistic biology studies related to atmospheric air pollutants.
  • Disease outcomes and population-based studies related to atmospheric air pollution, emphasis on research relevant to CEE countries.

Topic 2: Environmental and health impacts of minerals/metals and mining activities

  • Detection and remediation of environmental and health impacts related to mining activities.
  • Exposure science and risk assessment approaches for mining sites.
  • Toxicology and mechanistic biology studies of minerals/metals.

Topic 3: Chemistry, fate, transport, and health effects of persistent halogenated contaminants (with emphasis on brominated and fluorinated compounds)

  • Detection and remediation of persistent halogenated compounds.
  • Prevention/intervention approaches to disease risks associated with persistent halogenated compounds.
  • Toxicology and mechanistic biology studies related to persistent halogenated contaminants.

Topic 4: Coastal and aquifer pollution

  • Challenges related to aquifer and sediment contamination.
  • Water resource management approaches.
  • Solutions and monitoring approaches for drinking water source quality.

Topic 5: Environmental issues and local population exposures at former military sites in Central and Eastern European countries

  • Detection and remediation of environmental and health impacts related to military sites in CEE countries.
  • Exposure science and risk assessment approaches for military sites in CEE countries.
  • Disease outcomes and population-based studies related to military sites in CEE countries.

Topic 6: Exposure science and risk reduction approaches for indoor pollution

  • Sustainable approaches to improve indoor air quality and reduce health risks associated with indoor air pollution.

Topic 8: Topics of growing awareness related to environmental health

  • Emerging research related to nanomaterial use and safety.
  • Implications of pharmaceuticals in environmental systems.

Topic 9: Social, political and economic impacts and considerations related to environmental stressors

  • Studies related to social, political, and economic determinants of health.
  • Perspectives for community engaged research approaches in CEE countries.

Topic 10: Environmental and health benefits of renewable energy sources

Panel: Future environmental health careers – A panel for young researchers

  • No abstracts solicited for panel discussion.
