The Methods of Fine Organic Synthesis

Major: Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy
Code of Subject: 8.226.00.O.3
Credits: 3
Department: Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology
Lecturer: Prof. Lubenets Vira
Semester: 1 семестр
Mode of Study: денна
Learning outcomes:
• Ability to name basic methods of scheduling synthesis and separation of organic matter, basic methods of designing organic molecules, basics of retrosynthetic analysis;
• Ability to use a complex knowledge of methods and techniques of fine organic synthesis for the synthesis of model compounds synthesis;
• Ability to plan and carry out the functionalization of organic compounds and to use special methods in preparative organic chemistry (preparation and conversion of functional groups; special methods of synthesis: methods of introducing protecting groups, chemo- and regio-stereoselective reactions, crown esters in organic synthesis, synthesis of analogues of natural compounds, biologically active substances);
• Be able to describe the scheme of synthesis, to prepare devices for work, check their performance; to carry out the analysis of initial and target substances; make comparative descriptions of the methods that can be used for analysis of the target substance; to select the reagent; to select the conditions of holding synthesis; competently evaluate the results of the analysis; to work with reference literature.
Required prior and related subjects:
Disciplines, required to be studied before the course:
Methods of organic synthesis.
Disciplines, required to be studied during the course:
Modern methods of identification of organic compounds, Evaluation of quality of medical and pharmaceutical technologies (quality of drugs, quality of treatment).
Summary of the subject:
Application of the formed holistic view of fine organic synthesis to search for new drug substances, formulation of clear ideas about the strategy and tactics of modern fine organic synthesis based on theoretical foundations of organic chemistry and mechanisms of organic reactions, knowledge about strategy of separation and recognition of transformers. The ability to apply physical- chemical research methods for the identification of organic compounds in laboratory conditions, to identify the correspondence between the structure of the substance, its physicochemical properties, reactivity and methods of its synthesis. This discipline provides the ability to apply theoretical knowledge and skills of complex chemical experiments during preparative synthesis of organic substances and the preparation of target biologically active compounds; and organize work in accordance with requirements of safety and security.
