Learning outcomes:
• Ability to conduct research and carry out scientific projects on the basis of identification of current scientific problems, defining goals and objectives, formation and critical analysis of information base, substantiation and commercialization of research results, formulation of author's conclusions and suggestions. Ability to conduct research independently and make decisions.
• To distinguish the basic approaches to the obtained planning on the synthesis and separation of organic substances, the basic methods of designing organic molecules, the basics of retrosynthetic analysis; to explain the concept of quality assurance of medicines.
• to plan and carry out functionalization of organic compounds and use special methods in preparative organic chemistry (preparation and transformation of functional groups; special methods of synthesis: methods of introducing protective groups, electrochemical methods of conversion of organic compounds, sound-chemical reactions, chemo- and regio-stereoselective reactions, crown-esters in organic synthesis, synthesis of analogues of natural compounds, biologically active substances); to apply knowledge of modern physicochemical methods of investigation of organic compounds for identification of synthesized substances; comply with the requirements of occupational safety, health and environmental protection during to performing experiments; to understand the meaning of the terms "pharmaceutical technology" and "medical technology".
Required prior and related subjects:
Prerequisites:
• Methods of fine organic synthesis
Co-requisites:
• Quality assessment of medical and pharmaceutical technologies (quality of drugs, quality of treatment)
• Application of medicines in clinical practice (advanced pharmacotherapy study)
Summary of the subject:
Relation of physicochemical properties of biologically active compounds with their pharmacological activity. Drug-receptor interaction. Metabolism of biologically active substances. Metabolic pathways and sites of xenobiotic metabolic changes. Transport of drugs through membranes. Relationship of structure and metabolism degree of medicinal substances. Biochemical transformation of medicinal substances in the body. Factors that affect drug metabolism. Biological studies of new compounds. Stages of development drug compounds.
