Learning outcomes:
• to know basic foundations of the fundamental sciences for further study of professional disciplines;
• to know main industrial strains of microorganisms that are used in biotechnology and methods of their selection by mutagenesis, hybridization and metabolic engineering;
• to be able to apply gained knowledge and understanding to identify, formulate and solve problems of development of biotech industries;
• to know the methods and ways of cultivation, biosynthesis, biotransformation, bioindication and biological testing of biological objects.

Summary of the subject:
Development of biotechnology. Main components of a biotechnological process. Stages of the biotechnological process. Fermentation processes (industrial biosynthesis). Allocation of products of a microbial synthesis. Biochemical basis of the microbiological synthesis. Biosynthesis of drugs based on biomass. Biosynthesis of primary metabolites. Biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Antibiotics. Biosynthesis of fermentation products. Enzyme synthesis.
