• have knowledge of the kinetics of heterogeneous chemical reactions and the construction of kinetic models of catalytic processes;
• understand the laws that link the nature of the catalyst, reactants and intermediate surface compounds to their reactivity and mechanism of process flow;
• be able to apply knowledge of heterogeneous catalysis in the selection of selective catalysts.

General information about catalysis. The main features of heterogeneous catalysis. Activation process in heterogeneous catalytic reactions. Kinetic and diffusion region of heterogeneous catalytic processes. Kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic processes. Energy factor in chemical catalysis. True and imaginary activation energy of heterogeneous chemical reactions. The role of the catalyst surface in catalysis. Adsorption and catalysis on the surface of a heterogeneous catalyst. Active centers in catalysis. Formation of intermediates on the surface of heterogeneous catalysts. Selectivity of heterogeneous catalysts. Poisoning and regeneration of heterogeneous catalysts. Heterogeneous catalysts based on transition metal compounds.
