Learning outcomes:
• knowledge of theory and methods of electricity transmission over long distances;
• knowledge of schemes and technical solutions of AC/DC electrical systems;
• knowledge of modern mathematical methods and models for analysis of AC/DC electrical system objects;
• ablility to choose scheme and parameters of the AC/DC electrical system objects;
• ablility to explore and analyze the typical operation states of AC/DC electrical system objects;
• knowledge of ways and means of improving transfer capability of AC/DC electrical system objects.
Required prior and related subjects:
prerequisites: Electromagnetic Compatibility; Designing Lines of Electric Power Grids; Overvoltages and Coordination of Insulation in Electric Power Grids;
related and the following: Diagnosis and testing of electrical equipment.
Summary of the subject:
Operation features and techno-economic characteristics of uncompensated long distance AC lines. Controlled (flexible) AC lines. DC transmissions and back-to-back stations. Pulsating current transmissions. Mathematical models of AC/DC electrical system objects based on generalized methods of independent variables and back integrating formulas. Power characteristics of AC/DC electrical system converters. The environmental properties of EHV overhead lines. Ways of increasing transfer capability of transmissions.
