Learning outcomes:
- knowledge of basic architectural principles of communication technologies which are used in control systems for thermal energy processes;
- knowledge of current state and trends, advanced Ukrainian and foreign developments and advanced technologies in the field of computing and industrial information networks;
- ability to choose reasonable structure and tools for building of industrial information networks in automated control systems for thermal energy processes;
- ability to configure network components of common operating systems and microprocessor controllers, to analyze the quality of industrial information networks;
- to understand the limitations and the application area of modern network technologies and protocols, to build supervisor and distributed control systems for thermal energy processes.

Summary of the subject:
Studying the principles of local networks, methods of physical and logical structuring of networks, switching techniques and methods of access to data environment, methods of information coding. Modern technologies for building LAN (Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Token Ring). Implementation of interconnectivity by means of TCP/IP, addressing in IP networks. Special attention is paid to studying of technologies and protocols used in industrial networks of automation control systems for thermal energy processes. Protocols AS-I, MODBUS, HART, Profibus-FMS, DP, PA and the features of using of technology Industrial Ethernet in industrial information networks. The examples of network protocols and typical network devices of famous world manufacturers for implementation of automatic control systems for thermal energy processes.
