Learning outcomes:
• knowledge of modern concepts of the structure and functioning of the genetic elements of prokaryotes and viruses; the nature and mechanisms of variability of prokaryotes, methods for genetic, cellular engineering and breeding of microorganisms
• the ability to make the scheme of the genetic engineering and breeding of microorganisms and analysis of mutants of microorganisms;
• ability to use theoretical knowledge of genetics and genetic engineering of microorganisms when performing research work.

• Genetics (general and molecular);
• General microbiology and virology;
• Bioengineering (cell and genetic).

• Immunoglobulin and DNA diagnostics and identification of GMOs
• Biotechnology and bioengineering of plants and genome analysis methods
Summary of the subject:
Features of genome organization prokaryotic organisms. Genetic apparatus of eukaryotic microorganisms. The structure of the genome of the yeast. Autonomous genetic elements in prokaryotes. Migrating genetic elements. IS-elements. Transposons. Conjugatic transposons. The mechanisms of replication, repairation and expression of the genome. Regulation of replication, transcription and translation in prokaryotes. Variability in prokaryotes. Mutagenesis. The essence of transformation, conjugation and transduction. The genetics of viruses. The structure and function of viral genomes. Replication, transcription and translation of viral genomes. Variability in viral genomes. Bacteriophages. Principles of construcnion of industrial microorganisms using methods of cellular and genetic engineering.
