Summary of the subject:
Within the discipline the phenomenon of "formalization" and the concept of "formalized theory" are considered both in theoretical linguistics and in terms of their philosophical interpretation. "Modeling" is viewed as a means of formal analysis. The principles of analysis and modeling of grammatical, semantic and statistical structure of scientific, technical, administrative documents are studied. In addition, we address the following topics: • Analysis and study of basic methods and terms (concepts) of mathematical and applied linguistics; awareness of the subject, directions and methods of these sciences today, as evidence of the importance of the formal aspect of language studies. • Overview of the formal direction in domestic and foreign linguistics. The origin of a formal description of language within structural linguistics. Generative linguistics as one of the branches of the formal direction in linguistics. Transformational generative grammars of N. Chomsky as initial and basic types of formal models for generative linguistics. • The main tasks of artificial intelligence: ways of formal representation of knowledge. Machine translation systems: the stage of formalization and creation of a knowledge base.
