Due to the study of the discipline, the graduate student must be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
1) Being able to define basic parameters of discourse studies.
2) Being able to define scientifically proven typologies of discourse compounds.
3) Being able to operate with basic requirements for discourse-oriented research works.
4) Being able to explore the macro- and microstructure of textual discourse
5) Being able to analyze the ways and approaches of discourse corpus compiling.
6) Being able to make use of proper academic terminology.
7) Being able to understand the principles of computerized terminology in discourse studies.

Modeling and formalization of units of language and speech

The curriculum of the course "Discourse Studies is compiled for the postgraduate students of specialty 035 "Philology" (Applied Linguistics) of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology. This course is a necessary part of studying the cycle of disciplines of philological profile and provides the formation of scientific and professional competence in general theoretical issues related to theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of linguistic facts in modern linguistics, taking into account its current perspective. Scientific discipline considers the problems of communication of reality, text and discourse as interrelated components of the structure and content of communication, which is always realized in a particular communicative space. The purpose of the course is to deepen and consolidate knowledge of the preconditions and directions of the development of discourse in the paradigmatic space of modern linguistics; teach postgraduate researchers to understand discourse as a multidimensional holistic form of human existence in temporal-spatial coordinates, in the cultural system; to acquaint young scholars with discourse modeling as a situation of information exchange and influence; to characterize the components of discourse; to deepen the knowledge of text-discursive categories; to thoroughly study the concepts of cognitive discourse map and principles of cognitive discourse modeling; to form the ability to apply different methods of discourse analysis.

Current control on practical classes conducted to identify openness of the postgraduate to classes in the following forms:
• selective oral quizzing before circle time;
• front standardized survey for 5-10 minutes;
• frontal check of homework;
• assessment of the activity of the graduate student in the process of employment, suggestions, original decisions, clarifications and definitions, additions to previous answers, etc.
The control questions are divided into
• test tasks — choose correct answer;
• problematic quizzes — creating problematic situations;
• problem-solving tasks – modulation the appropriate situation and finding solutions;
• questions-remarks — identify cause and effect relationships;
• situational tasks — to determine the answer according to a specific situation;
• tasks of reproductive nature — definition of practical value.
The final check conducted on the basis of current control and examination.
