Learning outcomes:
• Ability to show knowledge of basic philosophical theories and concepts in humanities and social and economic sciences, ethical and legal standards that maintain the relationships between people and a man's attitude towards environment;
• Ability to show knowledge and understanding of the evolution of linguistic paradigms in XIX-XXI centuries; to have a clear understanding of linguistics as a special science that studies ontology of the language as a system of signs, its structure and functional orientation; to understand the influece of language and society, language and culture, language and thinking, language and religion, language and social strata;to understand language as a means of displaying people`s and nations` unity;
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of modern linguistic scientific methods used in lexicography, corpus linguistics and cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, terminology, computer-aided translation;
• Ability to show knowledge of the main types of translation and translation as a special means of communication based on objectivity and subjectivity;
• Ability to use technical and software knowledge in informative processes; fundamentals of corpus linguistics, main areas of computer linguistics;
• Ability to independently acquire new knowledge to critically evaluate the experience gained from the standpoint of the latest achievements in philology and social practice;
• Ability to perform phonological, semantic, morphological and syntactic analyses of the language; to analyze different types of discourse;
• Skills to compile dictionaries, including electronic ones, using modern linguistic terminology and terminology in the field of information technology.

Summary of the subject:
Theoretical and applied linguistics. Objectives and branches of applied linguistics. Methods of applied linguistics. Semiotics. Sign and the theory of signs. Linguistics at present: cognitive linguistics. Optimization of cognitive functions of the language. Computer linguistics. Applied aspects of statistical linguistics. Optimization of epistemic functions of the language. Lexicography. Computer lexicography. Terminology and terminography. Corpus linguistics. Language functioning optimization as a means of transmitting information. Translation. Computer-aided translation. Optimization of the social function of language ,functioning of language as a means of influence. Linguistic aspects of the theory of influence: language mechanisms of versatile reality interpretations. Mechanisms of reality versatile interpretations in neuro-linguistic programming. Political linguistics. Actual problems of applied linguistics.
