Learning outcomes:
• Skills to use knowledge in practical situations;

• Ability to perform comparative analysis of the English and Ukrainian languages in order to appropriately render extra lingual realia;
• Ability to easily deal with complicated sociocultural circumstances, preparedness to operate innovative and communication processes of broad concept;
• Ability to perform written translation and interpretation tasks using style registers and means of their rendering into the target language.

Summary of the subject:
Family life, generation gap, marriages and divorces, birth and death. Use of the past, used to and would. Appearances, character and personality. The order of adjectives and adverbs. Social problems. Crime and the law, punishment, charity, social issues. The passive. Unemployment, poverty. The causative. Environmental problems. Dependent prepositions. Science and technology. The future forms. Domestic appliances and facilities. Modal verbs expressing probability. Sharing opinions.

Learning outcomes:
• to know research methods in the field of lexicology, specificity of word-building in English and Ukrainian, semantic groups of words in English and Ukrainian, stylistic differentiation of lexicon; regional variants of English and Ukrainian lexicon, types of phraseological units in English and Ukrainian;
• to be able to carry out contrastive linguistic research aimed at the comprehensive study of a specific theoretical issue and development of methodology for investigating convergent and divergent features in lexical and phraseological systems of Ukrainian and English.
Required prior and related subjects:
Prerequisites: Modern English, An Introduction to Linguistics, Fundamentals of Cultural Linguistics;
Co-requisites: Contrastive Grammar and Semantics, Theory and Practice of translation
Summary of the subject:
Key concepts and research methods in contrastive linguistics. The theoretical foundations for conducting contrastive analysis of lexical and phraseological systems of the English and Ukrainian languages, including principles and types of word-formation, meaning (semantics) and functioning (stylistic differentiation).
