• to know research methods in the field of lexicology, specificity of word-building in English and Ukrainian, semantic groups of words in English and Ukrainian, stylistic differentiation of lexicon; regional variants of English and Ukrainian lexicon, types of phraseological units in English and Ukrainian;
• to be able to carry out contrastive linguistic research aimed at the comprehensive study of a specific theoretical issue and development of methodology for investigating convergent and divergent features in lexical and phraseological systems of Ukrainian and English.

The theoretical foundations for conducting contrastive analysis of lexical and phraseological systems of the English and Ukrainian languages, including principles and types of word-formation, meaning (semantics) and functioning (stylistic differentiation).
