• Know the theoretical, methodological and technological basis of GIS, information technology forming the digital terrain model (DTM)
• Be able to create digital topographic and thematic maps, to use geographic information methods to build structural, parametric and thematic maps (technology ARCView).
Required prior and related subjects:
• Mathematical Principles of cartography.
• GIS and databases.
Summary of the subject:
Data sources and their types. Technical appliances of input and output. Technology input data (raster and vector). Output and data visualization. Methods and tools of data visualization. Raster data presentation and its variants. Vector data presentation and its variants. Formats and Standards digital spatial information. GIS as a instrument of decision-making. Review of industrial packages GIS. Production of ESRI: ArcInfo, ArcView. Modules ArcView (Spatial Analyst, Net Analyst, 3d View). The structure of GIS, Mapinfo. Vectorization of cartographic images. Vectorization of raster data. Creation of cartographic and attributive databases. Concept of mapping layer. Layers of the digital maps (DM). Placing data on digital map. Subject of DM. Signing on DM. Drawing and editing DM. Reports. Working with tables. Projections and coordinate systems.
