Learning outcomes:
• Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the basic directions of the work of museums;
• Awareness and understanding of trends in the development of defining stages of formation of museology as an independent academic discipline;
• Knowledge of the main methodological approaches in museology;
• Knowledge of basic research designs and activities of leading museologists all over the world;
• Understanding of the museum as a special phenomenon of social and cultural communication;
• Understanding of museum exhibition as the basis of the museum's communication;
• Knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon of exhibits in the context of "Museaitat”
• Awareness and understanding of trends in the development of defining stages of formation of museology as an independent academic discipline;

Summary of the subject:
Features of periodization and pre scientific stage of museology development; establishment of museology as a science in the end of XIX - early XX century; the first museum revolution and professionalization as the basis for the development of museology; International Bureau of Museums (1926-1946); The International Council of Museums (ICOM); Institutional approach of museological research; The theoretical basis of museology of Jiri Neustupnogo and Joseph Benes. Methods of museological research; objective approach to the museological research. Zbynek Stranski, cultural vision in museological studies; communicative approach in museology. Duncan Cameron; new museology.

Methods and criteria of assessment: rating assessment on a 100-point system: current tests - 40 points (quiz, presentation, oral and written answers), final test - 60 points (written exam)
