Learning outcomes:
By the end of the module learners are expected to be able to:
- make and give structured presentations of professional content using appropriate linguistic and non-linguistic means of communication;
- demonstrate the ability to arrange information on common study and job/ specialism-related topics in a logical and coherent way, demonstrate a sufficient appropriate vocabulary range related to the topic of presentation;
- interpret graphical information using appropriate linguistic means;
- select and sort out relevant information by scanning and skimming through education- and employment-related web-sites;
- demonstrate a working understanding of the purpose, structure, general and detailed content and requirements of education- and employment-related documentation;
- write education- and employment-related papers (a resume, a cover/motivation letter) with a sufficient degree of grammatical accuracy and appropriate vocabulary range; revise, edit and proofread them;
- demonstrate a working understanding of existing rules and standard procedures while participating as an applicant in an academic/job interview;
- perform effectively during the job interview: respond to the interviewers’ questions with an ample degree of precision, appropriacy and a sufficient range of vocabulary; ask related to the situation open-ended questions; use suitably verbal (lexis and grammar) and non-verbal (melody, pauses, gestures, postures, dress code, cosmetics etc.) means of communication.

Co-requisites: Foreign language for specific purposes.

Summary of the subject:
Presenting Information. (Structuring the material for a presentation. Organising and practicing Introduction. Structuring and practicing the Body of presentation. Interpreting visual aids. Organizing and practicing a Conclusion. Using visual aids. Language and rules of delivery. Using Body language. Handling questions and organising a discussion. Delivering full individual presentations.) Application Procedure. Writing a motivation letter for an academic course on an exchange student programme. Writing a Resume. Writing a Cover letter. Attending a job interview.
