At the end of the course students will acquire:
- the knowledge of the range of tasks of modern communicative linguistics and main areas of scientific research; communicative linguistics tools; optimization tools for the communicative function of language; issues of organizing the linguistic means (language code) in different types of communication and in dynamic communicative situations;
- the skills of applying the tools of communicative linguistics for the optimization of the communicative function of language with a view of developing practical skills in conflict-free communication in discussions, business conversations, negotiations, etc.; developing the guidelines for ensuring a high level of communication ethics and of speech culture in general; identification and neutralization of pathogenic texts and discourses; practical analysis of communicative situations from every-day life and belles-lettres-based situations.

Communicative linguistics as a science and an academic subject. Nature of communication. Communication components. Forms of linguistic communication. Speech production and perception as the basis of communication. Linguistic-code-related components of the communicative act. Speech genre and act as discourse elements. Communication components related to speech rhetoric and communicative situation.
