Learning outcomes:
• To know the history of corpus linguistics establishing as a science; main problems and tasks solved with the help of corpus linguistics; the main lines of research.
• To be able to learn native speakers’ speech activity; to describe new phenomena and processes in the modern state of the foreign society language; to apply modern technologies of experimental data gathering, processing and interpretation; to conduct language analysis based on corpus data.
• Ability to show the knowledge of modern scientific linguistic methods applied in corpus linguistics.
• Ability to use technical and software means of informational processes realization; to create algorithms for the design of the applied programs that process lingual data.
• Ability to apply methods of creating conceptual, logical and physical models of database systems for the applied programs that process lingual data.
• Mastering individual (course theses) or group (laboratory work and leadership) work skills, ability to obtain results within the time limits with the emphasis on professional integrity and preventing plagiarism.

The notion of the linguistic corpus. Corpus Linguistics history. Corpus (empirical) approach in comparison to Chomsky linguistics. Tasks and main branches of Corpus Linguistics. Corpus Linguistics and Computer Linguistics. Corpus Linguistics methods. Corpora types. Ways of corpora application. Corpora-based linguistic studies.
