- ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of language as a social phenomenon, its relationship to mind, culture and social development of people; the fundamental relationship between language and world; the origin and development of language, its levels; the basic units of language and speech; functional language properties;
- ability to carry out phonological, semantic, lexicological, morphological and syntactic analysis of linguistic material; to analyze different types of discourse/text;
- ability to translate, review and annotate multi-genre texts in state and foreign languages;
- ability to edit multi-genre texts in the Ukrainian and English languages.

Prerequisites: Modern English, An Introduction to Linguistics, Fundamentals of Cultural Linguistics;
Co-requisites: Contrastive Grammar and Semantics, Theory and Practice of Translation.

The essence of contrastive linguistics studies. Key concepts and research methods in contrastive linguistics. The theoretical foundations for conducting contrastive analysis of lexical and phraseological systems of the English and Ukrainian languages, including principles and types of word-formation, meaning (semantics) and functioning (stylistic differentiation). Morphology of the English and Ukrainian languages.
